GPYNEF recognizes the Development of high school sailing as a high priority knowing that these young men and women represent the future of sailing. High school sailing represents a wonderful competitive environment for both men and women to compete on a national basis in a sport that can carried into college and can become a lifetime activity.
The number of high school programs in the metro Detroit area have grown to approximate 20 high schools that offer both Spring Varsity and Fall Club Sport Teams. The GPYNEF has supported both Varsity and Club Sport Sailing by offering grants to fund equipment for matching sailing, sailboats, sails, and other equipment. GPYNEF sponsors both local high school regattas and regional MISSA qualifying events. GPYNEF travel grants provide funding for local high school programs that have qualified to compete in national and regional championship regattas.
Our GPYNEF Scholarship Program helps to inspire the growth of the High School sailing by awarding a minimum of 10 College Scholarships annually. Through 2020, 99 GPYNEF Scholarships have been presented high school seniors.
